Every Year Chardham Yatra begins from the month of April or May onwards and continues until October/November as the doors of all four temples (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yumunotri & Gangotri) remain open till the day of “Diwali Festival” which is celebrated every year during the month the month of October/November.

How do I visit Chardham Yatra Circuit and Temples?

Chardham Yatra can be starts either from Delhi or Haridwar as being a capital of India, Delhi is connected with almost entire World & all major Cities of India through various flight connections and Trains. Road connectivity from Delhi to Haridwar is very good as by road it is just 210 km/ 5 hours drive (approx). One can travel by air from Delhi to Dehradun (Joly Grant Aiport) which is just 41 Km away (1 hrs drive approx) from Haridwar. Nearest Railway station of Haridwar is just 16 Km before of “Har-Ki-Pauri” (Haridwar) and train journey from Delhi to Haridwar takes only 4-5 hrs approx. Chardham Yatra starts from Delhi – Hardiwar – Barkot – Yamunotri – Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Guptkashi- Kedarnath- Rudraprayag- Badrinath- Joshimath- Srinagar(Garwal)- Rishikesh – Delhi. These places can be covered in approx 12 days from Delhi to Delhi and from Haridwar to Haridwar it takes approx 11 days.

Char Dham Yatra – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath & Badrinath

The traditional Char Dham circuit begins with Yamunotri, followed by Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Each Dham has its own religious importance and a completely different atmosphere.

Yamunotri Dham

Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna and is surrounded by the high mountains of the Garhwal Himalayas. After reaching Janki Chatti, pilgrims proceed towards the temple by trek, pony or other available local options.

During the visit, devotees can have darshan at Yamunotri Temple and visit important places such as Divya Shila and Surya Kund.

The return journey takes you back to Barkot for an overnight stay.

Gangotri Dham

The next important stop is Gangotri, the sacred temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri is itself a memorable part of the yatra, passing through mountain roads, forests, rivers and the beautiful village of Harsil.

At Gangotri, pilgrims can visit the temple and nearby sacred spots including Surya Kund and Bhagirath Shila before returning to Uttarkashi.

Kedarnath Dham

Kedarnath is one of the most revered temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located high in the Himalayas.

From the Guptkashi/Sonprayag side, pilgrims continue towards Gaurikund and undertake the Kedarnath trek. Depending on personal preference and availability, travellers may also consider local pony or other permitted travel options.

The journey to Kedarnath is physically demanding, but the spiritual atmosphere and Himalayan surroundings make it an unforgettable part of the Char Dham Yatra.

After darshan, pilgrims return towards the lower valley for the next stage of the journey.

Badrinath Dham

The final Dham of the pilgrimage is Badrinath, dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his form as Badri Narayan.

The route towards Badrinath passes through the spectacular Himalayan landscape of Uttarakhand. After reaching Badrinath, pilgrims can take darshan at Badrinath Temple and explore nearby sacred attractions according to the available time.

The peaceful surroundings of the Alaknanda Valley make Badrinath a beautiful way to complete the Char Dham pilgrimage.

Best Time for Char Dham Yatra

The Char Dham temples are located in the high Himalayas, so the pilgrimage season is mainly during the months when the routes are accessible.

May to June is popular for travellers who want to visit during the early pilgrimage season.

September to October is also preferred by many pilgrims because the weather is generally more comfortable and the Himalayan scenery can be particularly beautiful.

Day 1 :

Pick Up From Haridwar

Start your journey from Haridwar and drive to Barkot, a beautiful town in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Check-in at hotel and relax for the night.

Day 2 :

Barkot to Yamunotri (Day trip)

Wake up early and head to Jankichatti, the starting point of the trek to Yamunotri. From Jankichatti, begin the trek to Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River. After visiting the temple and taking in the natural beauty, trek back to Jankichatti and return to Barkot for an overnight stay.

Day 3 :

Barkot to Uttarkashi

Check out from your hotel in Barkot and proceed to Uttarkashi, another charming town in Uttarakhand. Visit the famous Vishwanath Temple and other local attractions in Uttarkashi. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.

Day 4 :

Uttarkashi to Gangotri (Day trip)

Embark on a day trip to Gangotri, the holy town situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. Visit the Gangotri Temple, which is dedicated to Goddess Ganga, and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After exploring Gangotri, return to Uttarkashi for the night.

Day 5 :

Uttarkashi to Guptkashi

Leave Uttarkashi and drive towards Guptkashi (Sonprayag), a picturesque town located on the way to Kedarnath. Guptkashi (Sonprayag) serves as the base for the Kedarnath trek. Overnight stay in Guptkashi (Sonprayag).

Day 6 :

Sonprayag to Kedarnath (Trek) with night stay

Start the trek to Kedarnath, one of the most revered shrines in Hinduism dedicated to Lord Shiva. The trek takes you through beautiful landscapes and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks. Upon reaching Kedarnath, visit the temple and spend the night in the accommodations available there.

Day 7 :

Kedarnath to Guptkashi with night stay

Check in hotel and have night stay.

Day 8 :

Guptkashi to Badrinath Temple with night stay

Proceed to Badrinath, a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus, and visit the famous Badrinath Temple. Take a dip in the Tapt Kund, a hot water spring believed to have therapeutic properties. Explore other attractions in Badrinath and spend the night there.

Day 9 :

Badrinath Temple and Mana village to Rudraprayag

Visit Badrinath Temple and Mana Village Then procced to Rudraprayag and have night stay in hotel

Day 10 :

Rudraprayag to Haridwar

On the final day of your itinerary, drive back to Haridwar, completing the circuit of your spiritual and scenic journey in Uttarakhand.
